Database Administrator (DBA) with 3 to 5 years’ experience in AWS, Aurora PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL. The successful candidate will be responsible for our databases' performance, integrity, and security. This role involves planning developing and troubleshooting to ensure our database systems run smoothly and securely.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain our AWS, Aurora PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle databases, ensuring their performance, availability, integrity, and security.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
  • Assist in database design and enhancement, ensuring any changes aligned with business needs and goals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, working closely with the development team.
  • Develop and manage database access, including creating the roles and managing permissions.
  • Implement backup and recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Cloud migration plan, manage, and execute the migration of databases from on-premises to a cloud environment (AWS)
  • Ensure the security and compliance of databases, including data encryption access controls and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular system audits to ensure the effective and efficient operations of all database systems and need to perform the cleanup activities that are needed to save cost.
  •  Knowledge of the SQL/PLSQL to support the database migration activities.
  • Experience with the AWS DMS to implement the replication in between homogenous and Heterogeneous databases.
  • Provide technical support for the database environment, including overseeing the development and organization of the databases.
  • Good understanding of core support processes and change management, maintain documentation standards.
  • Strong experience in database and SQL query tuning
  • Develop and manage automation scripts to streamline database administration tasks
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development environments.
  • Having experience on Snowflake, and Datadog

 

Required Skills:

AWS cloud fundamentals, database engine expertise, AWS RDS and Aurora knowledge, monitoring and performance tuning skills, and security and compliance awareness.

Security and Compliance: 
  •  VPC, Subnet isolation, Security Groups, Audit trails with CloudTrail, Compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2.
Automation and Scripting: 
  •  Python, Bash scripting, Lambda functions, IaC tools: Terraform, AWS CloudFormation.

Migration and Data Replication: 
  •  AWS DMS, Native dump/restore, Schema/data conversion, Minimal downtime migration strategies.

Performance tuning in Postgres , Oracle and snowflake databases:
Query tuning: EXPLAIN, AWR reports.
Snowflake: warehouse sizing, clustering, caching

Monitor slow queries using Performance Insights, CloudWatch, or Snowflake Query Profile

Monitoring & Troubleshooting
  •  Tools: CloudWatch, Enhanced Monitoring, Performance Insights, Datadog
  •  Monitor CPU,IOPS, memory, connections, disk space, query latency
  •  Use Snowflake Query History, Resource Monitor, Access History

Data Warehousing: Snowflake
  •  Warehouses, virtual warehouses, micro-partitioning
  •  Time Travel, Zero-Copy Cloning, Query optimization. Automation & Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
